Right to Reject is a basic Human Right

Right now, if a voter goes to a polling booth and does not want to vote for any candidate, he can sign a register and come out. That violates the right of secret ballot.

Dr V Suresh explains the efforts that was put in by PUCL(People's Union for Civil Liberties) over the decade to make the supreme courts verdict on Right to Reject a reality.

PUCL was founded by Veteren leader "Loknayak" Jaya Prakash Narayan (JP) in 1976 while he was jailed during emergency. The idea was to make the PUCL an organisation free from political ideologies, so that people belonging to various political parties may come together on one platform for the defence of Civil Liberties and Human Rights.
