Say NO to Aadhaar Card

Aadhaar Card is NOT Mandatory.

On August 11, 2015, Supreme Court of India ruled that the Aadhaar Card was NOT Mandatory. Despite a similar 2013 ruling, different government agencies as well as banks had made it seem that the possession of the Aadhaar – a unique identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) – was compulsory for citizens to access resources for basic and fundamental needs such as foodgrains through the Public Distribution Schemes (PDS), kerosene and LPG, and bank accounts too!

Repeal Death Penalty

PUCL has consistently campaigned for abolition of death penalty. World over a majority of countries have abolished death penalty. Abolition of death penalty, has in no way, resulted in the increase of crime. Further the joint study of PUCL and Amnesty International, titled `Lethal Lottery: The Death Penalty in India’ which studied all SC judgments from 1950 till 2008, has demonstrated that the administration of death penalty has been arbitrary, capricious and erratic. Hence, the PUCL’s demand for abolition of death penalty has not changed.

Repeal Sedition Law

A recent Convention organized by People’s Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) and participated in by other Human Rights organizations heard accounts of widespread and systematic misuse of the sedition law across India. All forms of democratic struggles - from farmer’s agitations to citizens protesting against state policies - have been criminalized and prosecuted under sedition laws.
